1 Simon and the spy

Simon Simple is at the station. He is going on a train. There are policemen at the station. There are policemen on the trains. They are all working very hard. ‘Why are the policemen here?’ Simon asks a man. ‘Look,’ the man says. Simon looks at the man’s newspaper.

‘Do you know this man?’ he reads. ‘He’s a spy! Find him! Stop him! Catch him! ‘ Simon looks at the people in the station . He can see students in jeans, and men in suits. He can see families and children. He cannot see any spies. Simon’s train goes at 11.00, and it is now 10.57. Simon runs to the train. There is an old woman with an umbrella near Simon. She is walking very fast. Simon does not see her. He does not see her bag.

The old woman’s bag hits Simon’s foot. Simon falls. His bag opens. His things fall to the ground. The old woman’s bag is open too. A letter falls out. Simon put his things into his bag. The old woman’s letter is with Simon’s things. Simon does not see it. He puts the old woman’s letter in his bag. He closes his bag, and runs to the train.

Simon sits down the in the train. There is beautiful girl beside him. ‘Hello’ Simon says. ‘Hello’ the girl says. The old woman is on the train too. She is looking at Simon’s bag. She wants the letter. There are policemen on the train. They cannot find the spy. The old woman sees the policemen. She turns and walks quickly down the train.

Simon likes the girl. She likes him. ‘There’s a restaurant on the train’ Simon says. ‘Do you want a cup of coffee ?’ ‘Yes, please,’ the girl says. ‘OK, wait here,’ Simon says. Simon takes his bag and goes to the restaurant. The old woman is waiting for him. Simon does not see her. He does not see her foot. The train is going fast. Simon falls. The old woman falls, too. She sits down on the floor. ‘Oh, I’m sorry,’ Simon says. He helps the old woman. Simon sees the old woman’s shoes. He looks at her shoes, and he looks at her face. ‘They’re not woman’s shoes,’ Simon thinks. Simon buys the coffee and goes back to the girl.

The train stops. Simon and the girl are going on a boat now. They walk from the train to the boat. There are policemen here, too. ‘What do they want?’ the girl asks. ‘There is a spy,’ Simon says. ‘ A spy?’ the girl says. ‘I can’t see any spies.’ Simon looks too. He sees families and students. He sees the old woman. ‘’No,’ Simon says ‘I can’t see spies.’

It is a beautiful day. The sun is shining and the water is blue. Simon and the girl sit near the water and wait. The boat is coming. ‘What’s your name?’ Simon asks. ‘Samantha’ the girl says. ‘Oh,’ Simon says. ‘My name is Simon. Simon and Samantha. That’s nice.’

Simon and Samantha are talking. They do not see the old woman. They do not see her umbrella. ‘Look out!’ a man shouts. ‘There’s a lorry!’ Simon and Samantha look. A lorry is coming down the road very fast. They jump back.

The old woman jumps back too. Simon sees her trousers. ‘They are not woman’s trousers,’ Simon thinks. ‘Come on, Simon, the boat’s here,’ Samantha says. Simon and Samantha get on the boat. Simon opens his bag and takes his lunch out. He takes the old woman’s letter out, too, but he does not see it. ‘Do you want a sandwich?’ Simon asks Samantha. ‘Yes, please,’ Samantha says. She takes her lunch out of her bag. ‘Do you want an apple?’ she says. The old woman is behind them. Simon and Samantha do not see her. They do not see her hand.

The boat is going fast now. The wind is strong. Samantha’s hair goes in her eyes. The wind takes the old woman’s letter. The letter flies along the boat. ‘What’s that paper?’ Samantha says. ‘Is it your boat ticket?’ ‘I don’t know’ Simon says. Simon runs. He wants his ticket. The old woman runs, too. She wants her letter.

Simon and the old woman run fast. They are near the paper now. ‘Woof!’ What is that? It is a dog! He is running very fast. He runs to the paper and catches it with his mouth. ‘My ticket!’ Simon says. ‘My letter!’ the old woman says. The dog runs along the boat. ‘Catch the dog!’ Simon says. ‘Stop him!’ says the old woman.

The dog is happy. He can run fast. He is playing a game with Simon and the old woman. He does not see Samantha. Samantha jumps up and catches him. ‘I’ve got him , Simon,’ Samantha says. Simon and the old woman run to Samantha. The paper is in the dog’s mouth. Simon looks at it. ‘That’s not my ticket,’ he says. ‘No,’ the old woman says. ‘It’s my letter.

The dog likes Simon and Samantha, but he does not like the old woman. He takes her coat in his mouth and pulls it. The coat falls to the ground. The wind takes the old woman’s hat. It falls into the water. Her hair falls with the hat. Simon and Samantha look at the old woman. It is not an old woman! It is a man!

‘ The spy!’ Simon says. ‘Police! Come here!’

The police are very happy. ‘Thank you, Simon,’ they say. ‘Now we have the spy. But the spy has a letter. The letter has names and addresses on it. We want the letter but we can’t find it. Where is it? Do you know?’ Simon looks at the dog. The dog looks at Simon. ‘There is the letter,’ Simon says. ‘Where?’ says the policeman. ‘It is on the dog,’ Simon says.

2 Snow White

Once upon a time there lived a lovely princess with fair skin and blue eyes. She was so fair that she was named Snow White. Her mother died when Snow White was a baby and her father married again. This queen was very pretty but she was also very cruel. The wicked stepmother wanted to be the most beautiful lady in the kingdom and she would often ask her magic mirror, “Mirror! Mirror on the wall! Who is the fairest of them all?” And the magic mirror would say, “You are, Your Majesty!” But one day, the mirror replied, “Snow White is the fairest of them all!” The wicked queen was very angry and jealous of Snow White. She ordered her huntsman to take Snow White to the forest and kill her. “I want you to bring back her heart,” she ordered. But when the huntsman reached the forest with Snow White, he took pity on her and set her free. He killed a deer and took its heart to the wicked queen and told her that he had killed Snow White. Snow White wandered in the forest all night, crying.

When it was daylight, she came to a tiny cottage and went inside. There was nobody there, but she found seven plates on the table and seven tiny beds in the bedroom. She cooked a wonderful meal and cleaned the house and tired, finally slept on one of the tiny beds. At night, the seven dwarfs who lived in the cottage came home and found Snow White sleeping. When she woke up and told them her story, the seven dwarfs asked her to stay with them. When the dwarfs were away, Snow White would make delicious meals for them. The dwarfs loved her and cared for her. Every morning, when they left the house, they instructed her never to open the door to strangers.

She knocked on the cottage door and said “Pretty little child! Let me in! Look what I have for you!” White said, “I am so sorry, old lady, I cannot let you in! The seven dwarfs have told me not to talk to strangers!” But then, Snow White saw the shiny red apple, and opened the door. The wicked witch offered her the apple and when she took a bite poor Snow White fell into a deep sleep. The wicked stepmother went back to the palace and asked the mirror, “Mirror! Mirror on the wall! Who is the fairest of them all?” The mirror replied, “You are, Your Majesty!” and she was very happy.

When the seven dwarfs came home to find Snow White lying on the floor, they were very upset. They cried all night and then built a glass coffin for Snow White. They kept the coffin in front of the cottage. One day, Prince Charming was going past the cottage and he saw Snow White lying in the coffin. He said to the dwarfs, “My! My! She is so beautiful! I would like to kiss her!” And he did. Immediately, Snow White opened her eyes. She was alive again! The Prince and the seven dwarfs were very happy. Prince Charming married Snow White and took her to his palace and lived happily ever after.

An ex-Facebook boss has said social media is harmful to our society. Chamath Palihapitiya's job was to increase Facebook's users. He feels bad about getting more people to use social media. 3 Man dragged off plane will sue United Airlines   (16th April, 2017)

United Airlines treated a passenger badly. Security guards pulled a 69-year-old doctor from his seat. They dragged him along the floor. He was covered in blood. He lost two teeth and broke his nose. The doctor paid for his seat. United said a crew member needed it. The doctor said he had to work the next day. United didn't listen to him.

The doctor will sue United Airlines. He was born in Vietnam. He said the United flight was "more horrifying" than being in the Vietnam War. His daughter was totally shocked.
