1 Pete and the pirates
Pete Morgan is visiting the Caribbean with his mother and Father. The Morgans are having a holiday for six months on their boat, Summer Sun. Pete’s mother is a teacher. Every day she teaches him for three hours, One morning Pete is washing the boat at Bue Sea Island.
‘It’s nine o’clock,’ his mother says. ‘Let’s do some work’. There is a computer on Summer Sun. Pete is looking at it. ‘What’s ‘’ The story of your family’’ ?’ Pete asks.
‘It’s a history website,’ his mother answers. ‘History is boring’ , Pete says. ‘ Can we do some Chinese, please? I like Chinese.’
Mrs. Morgan smiles. ‘OK,’ she says.
Later Pete goes to a beach near his boat. He takes his metal- detector and finds an old knife. A pirate with long white hair is watching Pete. He is standing behind some trees. He sees the knife and smiles. Then suddenly he sees Mr Morgan. ‘Pete!’ Mr Morgan says.
Pete looks at his father. ‘There is small town near here,’ Mr Morgan says. ‘Your mother and I need to do some shopping. Can you stay with the boat this afternoon?’
‘Yes ,’ Pete says. ‘That’s not a problem. I need to write some e-mails’.
‘Good’ Mr Morgan smiles. ‘See you later’.
At three o’clock Pete is writing an e-mail on Summer Sun. ‘The Caribbean is fantastic,’ it says. ‘Every day we … ‘Suddenly the door opens. Pete’s mouth opens too.
‘Who are you?!’ Pete asks.
‘My name is Tom Carter’, the pirate from the beach says. ‘Come with me’. He looks at Pete’s metal- detector. ‘And bring your machine too.’
Pete and Tom walk to the beach. There is a small boat behind some trees. Tom takes Pete to a very big boat. ‘The White Rose,’ Pete reads. ‘Are you a ghost ?!’he asks. ‘Yes,’ Tom says. ‘The White Rose’s men only walk and talk for one day in hundred years. Usually we live under the water.’
Pete’s eyes are very big, but he doesn’t answer him.
On the White Rose, Pete meet its captain. The captain only has one leg. ‘Our treasure is on a small island near here, but we can’t find it, ‘he says. ‘We only have one day. Can you and your machine help us?’ Pete looks at the captain’s white face and hat. ‘Yes,’ he says very quietly. ‘OK’ .
One hour later, Pete and the pirates are on a small island. Pete looks for their treasure with his metal-detector. The pirates watch and wait.
Suddenly … Beeeep ! ... Pete finds it.
‘That’s fantastic, boy!’ the captain says. ‘You’re a pirate now’.
Tom looks up. ‘A storm is coming,’ he says.
The storm arrives. The pirates quickly go back to the White Rose with Pete. On the boat they look at their treasure. ‘This is a fantastic day!’ Pete thinks. Then he looks at the dark sea.
Summer Sun is near White Rose now.
‘Oh no!’ That’s my mother and father’s boat,’ he says. The White Rose’s captain looks too. Summer Sun is going up and down in the big storm.
‘ What can I do?’ Pete asks. The captain talks quietly. ‘It’s OK, boy,’ he says. ‘Pirates help pirates.’ Then he looks at Tom. ‘Take the long rope, Mr Carter,’ he says. ‘Yes, Captain,’ Tom answers.
Suddenly, Tom is in the water with a long , heavy rope. It is raining ad the sea is black.
‘Swim, Tom! SWIM!’ the pirates all say.
Pete closes his eyes, He can’t watch. Then the captain says, ‘Look! He’s on your boat.’ Pete opens his eyes again and smiles. Tom has the rope in his hand. ‘CATCH!’ he says.
After the storm, the pirates take Pete and the Summer Sun back to Blue Sea Island.
‘ Thank you, Captain … ‘Pete stops and smiles. ‘… I don’t know your name!’ It’s Pete Morgan,’ the captain says.
‘But that’s MY name too!’
Time stops. Suddenly Pete says,’ Come with me.’
Pete looks at the history website on his computer. After a short time, he smiles.
‘This is fantastic!’ he says. ‘You’re my great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great – grandfather!’ ‘Am I ?’ Captain Morgan says. He is smiling too.
Then Tom walks into the room and says, Evening’s coming, Captain. We need to say goodbye.’
At six o’clock , Pete’s new friends go under water. An hour later his mother and father come back.
‘Are you OK?’ Mrs Morgan asks.
‘Yes,’ Pete answers. They talk about the storm. Later he asks, ‘Can we do some history tomorrow?’
‘But you don’t like history,’Mrs Morgan answers.
‘I do now,’ Pete says and smiles. ‘ It’s fantastic! ’

A poor woodcutter and his wife had two children named Hansel and Gretel. Their mother died when they were young. Hansel and Gretel were very sad. Soon their father remarried but their stepmother was very cruel. One day, she took the children deep into the forest and left them there. Clever Hansel had some breadcrumbs in his pocket and had dropped them on the way so that they could find their way back home. Alas! The birds ate all the crumbs and they couldn’t find the path that led back home.
Hansel and Gretel went deeper and deeper into the forest. They were hungry and tired. Finally, after walking for a long time, they saw a cottage made of chocolate, candies, and cake. “Look, Hansel! A chocolate brick!” shouted
Gretel in delight and both ate it hungrily.
Now, a wicked witch lived there. When she saw Hansel and Gretel, she wanted to eat them. She grabbed the children and locked them in a cage. The witch decided to make a soup out of Hansel and eat him first. She began boiling a huge pot of water for the soup. Just then, Gretel crept out of her cage. She gave the wicked witch a mighty push from behind and the witch fell into the boiling water. She howled in pain and died instantly. Hansel and Gretel found treasure lying around the cottage. They carried it home with them. Their stepmother had died and their father welcomed them back with tears of joy. They never went hungry again!

3 King Arthur and the sword
A king loves a beautiful girl. He asks Merlin, a clever magician, to help him. Merlin helps the king to win the girl, but he says that the king must give him his first child.
The king and the girl have a baby. His name is Arthur. Merlin takes the boy. Many years later the king dies. Arthur is now a young man. Many men want to be king. Merlin says they must all come to London. Outside a church there is a big stone with a wonderful sword in it.
‘If you can take the sword out of this stone you can be king’, he says. All the men try to pull the sword out of the stone but nobody can do it. One day Arthur is riding with a friend, Sir Hector, and his sons. Sir Hector’s sword is at home. Arthur goes back to Sir Hector’s house to fetch the sword. But Arthur cannot open the door. Then he sees the sword outside the church.
That’s a good sword. I can take that to sir Hector. He pulls the sword out of the stone. He takes it to Sir Hector. When Sir Hector sees the sword he kneels on the ground.
‘Why are you kneeling?’ Asks Arthur.
‘You have the sword, says Sir Hector. You are the king.

United Airlines treated a passenger badly. Security guards pulled a 69-year-old doctor from his seat. They dragged him along the floor. He was covered in blood. He lost two teeth and broke his nose. The doctor paid for his seat. United said a crew member needed it. The doctor said he had to work the next day. United didn't listen to him.
The doctor will sue United Airlines. He was born in Vietnam. He said the United flight was "more horrifying" than being in the Vietnam War. His daughter was totally shocked. A video of the doctor being dragged went viral. He said no. He did not apologize at first. Many people signed a petition for the United Airlines boss to quit.

3 Panic in Hawaii (19th January, 2018)
On Saturday, January 13th, people in Hawaii panic. They get a text message in the afternoon. It says that a missile is flying to Hawaii. People think that they are going to die. They call their family and their friends. If you are outside you need to stop driving your car. You have to go inside a building as fast as you can. They find safe places to go.
However, there is no real danger. The emergency text message is a mistake. The next day, the Hawaii governor says that he is sorry. He said someone has ‘pushed the wrong button’.

United Airlines treated a passenger badly. Security guards pulled a 69-year-old doctor from his seat. They dragged him along the floor. He was covered in blood. He lost two teeth and broke his nose. The doctor paid for his seat. United said a crew member needed it. The doctor said he had to work the next day. United didn't listen to him.
The doctor will sue United Airlines. He was born in Vietnam. He said the United flight was "more horrifying" than being in the Vietnam War. His daughter was totally shocked. A video of the doctor being dragged went viral. He said no. He did not apologize at first. Many people signed a petition for the United Airlines boss to quit.

3 Panic in Hawaii (19th January, 2018)
On Saturday, January 13th, people in Hawaii panic. They get a text message in the afternoon. It says that a missile is flying to Hawaii. People think that they are going to die. They call their family and their friends. If you are outside you need to stop driving your car. You have to go inside a building as fast as you can. They find safe places to go.
However, there is no real danger. The emergency text message is a mistake. The next day, the Hawaii governor says that he is sorry. He said someone has ‘pushed the wrong button’.
